This is a unique class that features a variety of cars that don’t quite fit in one of the other classes. The class is primarily made up of replicas or recreations, there are probably at least a dozen Allard P based cars that have been converted to J2’s with a shortened chassis and new aluminum body. Other replicas feature a custom chassis and fiberglass body. Also included in the class are some unique Allards (and people) that are notable and can’t be overlooked….each presenting a unique story.

Allard J2-1911: Farrallac MkII

The Farrallac MkII was the brainchild of Allard exponent, Don Farrall. It is generally acknowledged to be the best of the UK’s one off sports racing cars of the 1950’s. With its light tubular chassis, David Hooper designed wishbone front suspension ensures its superb handling and balance. Allard JR rear suspension and 400 Cadillac horsepower helps the Farrallac to run at the front of most of today’s historic events. Owned for the past 42 years by the Bianchi’s, the Farrallac is campaigned by Tony and his wife Pia throughout the UK and Europe with continuing success.

Allard J2 Model

Herewith we submit the J Series Allard No. 6726 – It is submitted as an entry in the ”Most Original Allard” Class. We believe that it will be found to be most original as it has traveled less than 10 yards since new in the 1950s and is certainly the only Allard still running on it’s original tires! We do regret having to take these photos while the car was occupied preventing a close up of the cockpit that you requested, but you must understand that the driver and passenger are truly inseparable from their Allard. We also regret our inability to photograph the engine as requested but you will see from the photo of the underside of the car that the large skid plate installed under the powerful motor does obscure the view. Please note that the skid plate was installed by NOSCO of Erie Pennsylvania whose vehicle shipping container is shown in the last photo. If we took that last photo clearly enough you will be able to see the car No. 6726 imprinted on that skid plate in the lower right corner as pictured.

Allard J2X2-004 Replica

This is my 1981 Allard J2X2 built by Allard Motor Co LTd and AHA motors in Ontario,Canada. It has a Chrysler 318, V-8, 4-speed Manual with overdrive. This car has been featured in numerous Car enthusiast magazines such as Road and Track, etc. It has appeared in a couple of print advertisements for Tennis and CIgarettes. Driven at the Shannonville circuit track to debut. It had a hefty price tag of $38k without the upscale bells and whistles. This Allard is definitely One that gets a lot of looks, questions and pictures taken wherever it goes!

J2X Replica

My 1952 Allard J2X replica, the “Green Monster”, was built by Quint in 1986…the 9th car that Quint produced. The molds to make the replicas went through a series of owners…Elite to Quint to Hardy and now to Roger Allard’s Allard Motor Works. This car has a Cadillac 472 ci V8, bored 30 over, that came from a mid 70’s Caddy. It has been chassis dynamometer tested at 260 HP. I am the third owner of the car and have added a number of features to it, including Dayton knock-off wire wheels and leather straps on the spare.

Allard M-231 Special

The car is an Allard M-Type Special Speedster, 1947 (type 71 M-231). The car was first owned by Guy Hazel who turned it into a hot rod (photo). The second owner purchased the car in 2005 with the intent of installing a new body. The third owner continued on the chassis, but sold it in 2013. The fourth owner completed much of the work, but the drivetrain was not roadworthy. I acquired the car in 2018 and completed the drivetrain work and hope to have the new MOT this year.

Allard P-1601 J2XXX Special

This entrant is a 1950 Allard J2SL (Special Long), Chassis 91P-1601, formerly a P1 model Saloon. Vehicle is prepared as a long distance rally tourer. Engine is a Ford DOC, Whipple Supercharged 4.6 cc., rebored to 5.0 cc. It is an all alloy body. Gross weight with maximum load is 3,000 lbs. This vehicle has won many first overall, seconds and honorable mentions at Pebble Beach on the Avenue, Ironstone, Ferndale, Dixon etc. Do you like him? His name is Fetor. He loves a parade and car shows. He goes like stink!

Allard P-1921 J2 Replica

The car was originally rebuilt as a J2 special by a AOC member some 20 years ago for a Italian gentleman, who unfortunately died just after it was finished. The car ran at Brighton speed trials, the was abandoned by the gentleman’s family. The Allard ended up being left in a field until Mike Knapman found it and put me in contact with the family. The Allard is now used for club racing, hill climbs sprints and road driving by me and my three sons. The car is now being used as a playpen for the grandchildren whilst waiting for the rebuilt engine.

Allard P-2253 J2 Replica

Allard P1 conversion to J2 special. The intention has been to stay as close as possible to the spirit of a 1950’s Allard race car. Allard shortened P1 chassis’ when sales for J2s were in demand. My J2 replica has undergone period modifications that include MK8 Jaguar disc brakes like the 1953 Lemans winning Jaguar. Inspiration for engine choice was via the Detroit racing article,” Gilding the Caddie “, where a 331 is bored and stoked to 390. Subsequently a 390 was installed coupled to a Cragar bellhousing, early Corvette close ratio T10 BorgWarner, breathing via Cragar 4x2 intake manifold.

Team Donick

Whimsey Racing purports to the most active (ONLY?) Father/Son Allard team currently competing in the United States. They drive J2 and K2 respectively. The younger driver started in the K2 at VSCCA Drivers School - Lime Rock Park in 2003. He first took on Mount Equinox in 2007. The elder driver has been racing both cars since 1982. Both drivers have broken the magic five minute mark on Mount Equinox. The younger is now showing up the old man by a few seconds. The crowds love it and Ray May would have been perfectly chuffed.
